FPPC Measure Project

The Fair Political Practices Commission ("FPPC") has jurisdiction over campaign finance for all non-federal elections in California. Its jurisdiction is the Political Reform Act of 1974. It has definitions of terms, galore, like "contribution" and "expenditure." Since Proposition 13 (1978) local governments have been perfecting their cheating on how to win local measure elections. That's what this project is about.

The following list is intended to be used to help you select one or more counties for this project. Although not an absolute rule, we'd like you to NOT pick your county, but rather pick counties in different parts of the state. For the counties with very large totals, we recommend teaming up for the follow-up and verification work that will follow the initial public records request.

There are no geographic requirements. You can be anywhere in the world to help. You can also be anonymous when making the public records request. More details on the teleconference and for participants.

To select your counties, text your name, your phone number, and the requested county names to 973-498-8066. You will receive a reply text (not immediately) with your pass phrase to access those records. If someone has already been assigned a county, you will be a back up. Los Angeles County is the most work and we expect that at least three people should work together on it. If you have already established a team for one of the large counties, you may all access the project with the same credentials.
